Cattle mutilation (also known as bovine excision and unexplained livestock death) is the killing and mutilation of cattle under unusual, usually bloodless, and anomalous circumstances. â Cases were defined as occupational fatalities caused by cattle that occurred in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, or Nebraska during 2003--2008. A case-control study of Iowa livestock farmers found that use of a hearing aid (odds ratio [OR] = 5.4) and doctor-diagnosed arthritis or rheumatism (OR = 3.0) were significantly associated with injuries related to animals (8). On average, only one person dies from shark-related injuries each year in the U.S., many of which are not the result of deliberate attacks. According to figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), 74 people have been killed by cows in the past 15 years. It kind of makes sense, when you consider how many cows there are in the country, and how frequently people come in contact with them, compared to sharks. No other country on the planet has more shark attacks than the United States, averaging 48 per year.
